"Elle" Is Taking Us Back to High School—Everything We Know About the Legally Blonde Prequel
Before she was dropping courtroom mic drops in pink Prada suits, Elle Woods was just a teenager navigating the chaos of high school in the '90s. Now, we’re finally getting a front-row seat to that chapter. Elle, the Legally Blonde prequel series, is officially on the way—and yes, it's giving us all the nostalgic, pastel-soaked energy we’ve been waiting for.
Amazon MGM Studios is cooking up this origin story to show us where Elle’s sparkle, sass, and smarts really began. Here’s everything you need to know about the prequel that's about to bring the bend-and-snap back to our screens.
💅 What's Elle All About?
Think less Harvard Law and more homeroom drama.
Set in the '90s, Elle follows a teenage Elle Woods way before she decided to slay in a courtroom. This version of Elle is dealing with the usual high school chaos—first loves, heartbreak, figuring out who she is, and most importantly, building the bold moral compass and signature confidence we all fell in love with in the original Legally Blonde movie.
The vibe? Clueless meets early Gossip Girl, with a side of courtroom destiny in the making.
🎬 Who's Running the Show?
Queen Reese Witherspoon herself is behind the project (because of course she is). She’s executive producing through her media company Hello Sunshine, alongside Lauren Neustadter and original Legally Blonde producer Marc Platt. That’s the dream team.
The series was created by Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure), who’s also co-showrunning with Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries). Director Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is set to helm the first two episodes, which already screams iconic.
💖 Meet the Cast
Say hello to the new Elle Woods: Lexi Minetree. Reese Witherspoon introduced her on Instagram in February 2025, officially passing the pink torch to the rising star.
Also joining the cast:
- Tom Everett Scott as Wyatt, Elle’s dad.
- June Diane Raphael as Eva, Elle’s ultra-chic, high-maintenance mom.
The cast already feels like a vibe, and we can’t wait to see how they bring Elle’s pre-Harvard life to... well, life.
🎥 Production Timeline & Release
Filming kicked off in April 2025 and is set to wrap by July. If everything stays on track (and we’re manifesting it does), we could see Elle premiere on Prime Video in 2026.
Clear your schedules and make space on your watchlist—it’s coming sooner than you think.
💁♀️ How It Fits in the Legally Blonde Universe
This isn’t just some random reboot. Elle is officially part of the ever-expanding Legally Blonde universe.
ICYMI:
- The OG film dropped in 2001 and instantly became a cultural icon.
- A sequel followed in 2003 (Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde).
- A spinoff (Legally Blondes) dropped in 2009.
- It even hit Broadway with a full-on musical.
- And yes—Legally Blonde 3 is still in the works.
So basically, Elle is the next pink puzzle piece in this iconic legacy. And we’re ready for it.
✨ What to Expect from Elle
Think pink, but make it 1990s. Elle promises to be fun, fast-paced, and full of the charm and optimism that made the original movie unforgettable. This isn’t just a retro rehash—it’s a coming-of-age story about the making of one of pop culture’s most beloved characters.
According to Reese, fans will get a chance to watch Elle “navigate her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity in ways that only our beloved Elle could do.”
That means plenty of heart, a sprinkle of drama, and probably a killer soundtrack full of throwback bops.
Elle isn’t just a nostalgic prequel—it’s a celebration of individuality, resilience, and girl power, Gen Z-style. With Reese at the helm and a creative team that gets why Elle Woods still slays over 20 years later, this series has the potential to be both a love letter to fans and a fresh introduction for a whole new generation.
The law books can wait—high school’s about to get a whole lot more fashionable.
